Manchester United attempt to hijack Arsenal's move for Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin

Louis van Gaal is lining up a bid for the France star, who has made it clear he will leave St Mary’s if he is offered the chance to play in the Champions Manchester United are trying to hijack Arsenal’s move for Southampton midfielderMorgan Schneiderlin, it emerged tonight.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger wants to build Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge around £25m rated Schneiderlin.
But Louis van Gaal is lining up a rival bid for the France World Cup star, who has made it clear he will leave St Mary’s if he is offered the chance to play in the Champions League.
Van Gaal is aware United struggled this season when Michael Carrick was injured and believes Schneiderlin, 25, can provide an alternative option to the aging England man.
News of United’s interest came as Saints boss Ronald Koeman admitted he faces a fight to keep Schneiderlin on the south coast..

Koeman – who persuaded Schneiderlin to snub a move to Tottenham last summer – said: “There is interest in a number of our players, include Schneiderlin.”
Schneiderlin joined Saints from Strasbourg as a teenager in 2008 and has played 230 league games.
Speaking last week, Schneiderlin, who has two years left on his contract, said: “I think my decision is made.
“The Champions League is my goal and if I leave Southampton it will be for a club in the Champions League.”
Schneiderlin is also wanted by Atletico Madrid and Juventus but is keen to stay in England.
He is hoping to leave with Saints blessing after trying to force a move last summer by tweeting ‘Six amazing years DESTROYED in one hour’ following showdown talks with the board.
Van Gaal, who has a frosty relationship with Koeman, has a bumper transfer kitty after successfully leading United back into the top four.

Chelsea target Abdul Rahman Baba: The History Boy

Looking back over the Ghana left-back's magnificent season with Augsburg and considering his transfer options this summer.

The future of Black Stars left-back Abdul Rahman Baba is one of the hot topics in Ghanaian football.
Indeed, the speculation surrounding the talented full-back is both impressive and intriguing, but it ought to be greeted with some apprehension.
It’s wonderful to see one of the nation’s top stars linked with major sides such as Chelsea, Manchester City and Juventus, and even if he doesn’t move this summer, his performances this year demonstrate that Baba is destined for the top of the game.
Even though the narrative this week has focused on the player’s future, and a possible high-profile transfer, it’s important that his achievements with Augsburg this side are celebrated before the player moves on.
Baba and his teammates—as the title of this feature proudly declares—have become history-makers this season.
Heading into this campaign, it was clear that Augsburg were a team on the up.
Even though they were only promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time in 2011, they registered an eighth-place finish last term, and Markus Weinzierl has forged a team laced with exciting young talents and also with its fair share of experienced professionals and calm heads.
They ended this season by achieving history, securing a first-ever European campaign for the Fuggerstadter after ending the campaign in fifth.
Despite a sluggish run of form during February and March, the side’s magnificent run in November, and their composure to see out the end of the season despite faltering conviction at both ends of the pitch, is admirable.
Borussia Dortmund’s struggles during the early portion of the campaign were well documented, but it’s quite remarkable that minnows Augsburg ended the campaign ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s side—Champions League finalists in 2013 and defeated semi-finalists a year later.
Augsburg can only dream of Dortmund’s resources and their plethora of international, world-class names.
While Baba missed a month of the campaign due to the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations—the tournament where he truly announced himself on the international arena—he was one of Augsburg’s key men during their historic season.
For one so young, the defender’s defensive poise is admirable, only one player averaged more tackles-per-game than Baba this campaign, while his attacking forays often stole the show. The 20-year-old managed four assists and was a regular sight bombing down the left flank; he proved to be a valuable weapon for Weinzierl’s outfit either taking men on down the left or arriving late to make his own pertinent contributions to attacking moves.
Of course, there is a case to say that Baba might be wise to remain at Augsburg for another campaign, to sample life in the Europa League in a familiar and comfortable context.
However, such beauty cannot be caged forever, and as the glorious melody of Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro rose ethereally from the high walls of Shawshank, so Baba cannot be kept at the SGL Arena forever.
Of his three potential suitors, it is Chelsea whose interest has generated the most headlines.
It’s easy to see why.
The Pensioners play in the most high-profile (if not the greatest) league in the world and are also its reigning champions. They boast Jose Mourinho, one of the few managers who players with no association to the Blues often say they’d love to work with.
He’s a coach who guarantees success, and if Baba is in the business of winning, of collecting honours, there aren’t too many safer bets.
From a Ghanaian perspective, there’s also the Michael Essien factor. When the Black Stars’ greatest player since Abedi Pele—and possibly the second-greatest ever (sorry Zion Train)—made such a big impact at Stamford Bridge, it’s understandable that his successors in the national team would want to follow in such illustrious footsteps.
However, I can understand why Juventus are also an appealing prospect.
The Bianconeri are the reigning Italian champions, and have been the dominant force in Serie A for four years. They are also on the brink of a Champions League final—their first since 2003—and their semi-final performance against Real Madrid reminded many that even despite the ignominy of last decade belong among Europe’s true bona fide giants.
There’s also the presence of Kwadwo Asamoah—himself a former Chelsea target—who has impressed at Juve since swapping Udine for Turin back in 2012. Kojo may be coming to the end of a miserable, injury-ravaged campaign, but his stock and his profile have risen and grown respectively since moving to Juventus.
It’s understandable that his trajectory might have struck a chord with Baba, the man who replaced him at left-back in the national side.
Also, while Jeff Schlupp and Christian Atsu are currently the only Ghana stars in the Premier League—and only one of those is truly thriving—Serie A is currently the hotspot for Italian players in Europe.
Beyond Asamoah, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, Afriyie Acquah, Fred Duncan, Richmond Boakye, Essien, Sulley Muntari and Godfred Donsah are just some of the Ghanaians currently thriving in Italy. The likes of Stephen Appiah, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Asamoah Gyan all featured in Serie A, while Andre Ayew could soon join the party should (as expected) he complete his move to AS Roma.
However, both potential transfers bring potential problems for Baba.
First of all, neither side are short at left-back.
Veteran Patrice Evra has been a revelation at Juve this term, and has regularly demonstrated his class at left-back in the absence of Asamoah. Even when the Frenchman runs out of gas—he is 34 after all—would Kojo not be given his chance to impress Max Allegri back in the full-back berth?
There is no guarantee—at least at first—that Baba would be signed for the first team rather than the substitute’s bench.
While Filipe Luis is rumoured to be on his way out of Chelsea, would the Ghanaian be sure of first-team football ahead of Cesar Azpilicueta? It seems far more likely that the Black Star would be shoehorned into a backup role.
The example of Atsu—who completed an under-the-radar move to Bournemouth this week—should strike concern into the hearts of any talented young players considering a move to Stamford Bridge.
It would be a disaster if Baba simply swapped Augsburg for Vitesse Arnhem.
By contrast, a move to Manchester City could make a lot of sense.
The Citizens have never completely found the answer at left-back despite the presence of two internationals; Aleksandar Kolarov is a wonderful attacking menace, but hardly a world-class defender, while Gael Clichy—now 29—is looking worryingly past his prime.
City, with the oldest squad in the Premier League, are also keen to replace the old guard with new blood. Not only would Baba be a fine compromise between Kolarov and Clichy, he also fits the profile of the kind of player the club are looking to employ.
The player may well end up in London or Turin—and both moves would generate more interest among Ghana fans—but sportingly, for his career, Manchester may be the best bet for the Black Stars’ history boy.

Chelsea in talks with Radamel Falcao over transfer and the Colombian is ready to take HUGE pay cut

Falcao was a big disappointment on loan at Manchester United last season, and Monaco are Radamel Falcao is having talks with Chelsea about a switch to Stamford Bridge.
The striker is keen to join the champions and is willing to take a massive pay cut to make the deal happen – his current deal with Monaco is worth £265,000 a week.
Falcao was a big disappointment on loan at Manchester United last season, and Monaco are keen to offload him to ease their finances.
The Colombian is ready to accept being part of Chelsea’s squad and Blues boss Jose Mourinho is considering the deal which would see him back up Diego Costa and Loic Remy. Agent Jorge Mendes is trying to broker the deal as he looks after both Falcao and Mourinho. to offload him to ease their finances.

Mirror Sport revealed in March that the former Atletico Madrid star would be offloaded by United but Chelsea know that if he regains his best form he is a world class striker.
Falcao is keen to resolve his future before the Copa America and is desperate to prove a point after his poor spell at Old Trafford.
Chelsea have also looked at Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke but moving for Falcao would allow them to strengthen other areas in their squad and are currently looking at Atletico Madrid pair Antoine Griezmann and Koke.

France World Cup winner Patrick Vieira, 38, is to be interviewed for the Newcastle manager's job.

Arsenal 'must target Premier League title' after FA Cup win

Arsenal forward Theo Walcott says the Gunners have to challenge for next season's Premier League title after they successfully retained the FA Cup.
Walcott, 26, scored the first goal as Arsenal comfortably defeated Aston Villa 4-0 in the final at Wembley.
But the Gunners came third in the Premier League, 12 points behind champions Chelsea, and have not won the league title since the 2003-04 season.
"The Premier League has to be the next target for us," said Walcott.
"That's two FA Cup wins now but this is one of the best squads we have had at Arsenal so we should be achieving more. We need to start well in the Premier League next year."
Walcott suffered a serious knee injury in January 2014 that saw him miss the 2014 FA Cup final, where Arsenal beat Hull City 3-2 at Wembley.
The England international only played two games in November before another injury kept him out for a further two months.
But he finished the season strongly with a hat-trick in Arsenal's last Premier League match, a 4-1 win against West Brom as Walcott was preferred to Olivier Giroud up front.
Walcott opened the scoring in the 40th minute at Wembley before further goals from Alexis Sanchez, Per Mertesacker and Giroud secured the victory.
"I missed all this last year and to be part of it this year is a dream come true," added Walcott.
"My family are here and I have worked so hard, as has everyone to do this. I want to thank the manager for picking me and having faith in me and hopefully I repaid him.
"I also want to thank the physios and everyone who has looked after me. This is for them."
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has now guided the Gunners to two trophies in two seasons after eight campaigns without winning any silverware.
"We have shown that we are a real team and can deal with pressure," said Wenger. "I congratulate the players, the staff and the fans. We are so happy.
"I had a difficult week to pick the team. But when confidence and sprit is so good it helps. I am very proud. Our club is doing well and if I can personally do well then it's even better.
"I have two more years of my contract and my hunger is great."
Wenger has won the Premier League three times, with their last success coming with the 2003-04 side that remained unbeaten throughout their league season.
He added: "Of course I think we can push on. Why not? We have won the league in the past when we have had potential to do it and that's what we want to do again.
"That's what we want to show next season but you also don't know how good the other teams will be.
"It is about consistency at the top level and in the past we have won leagues when we have been consistent.
Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey is also adamant that his side can win the Premier League title in 2015-16.
"It's a great feeling," said Ramsey. "We really wanted this one. Winning back-to-back FA Cups is not an easy thing to do and we have done it.
"Now we can look forward to next season and kick on and give it a real go in the Premier League.
Striker Olivier Giroud scored Arsenal's fourth goal in injury-time after coming on as a substitute in the 77th minute.
He feels it is vital that the key players remain at the club.
"If we keep this squad, with one or two more players, we will have a good chance to challenge for the title," said Giroud. "The Premier League title is the target. Hopefully we will be there."

Uefa president Michel Platini must unite Europe - Greg Dyke

Uefa president Michel Platini must show strong leadership to unite Europe behind a collective boycott of the 2018 World Cup, says Greg Dyke.
A boycott in protest at the re-election of Sepp Blatter as Fifa president will be considered by Uefa, European football's governing body, when it meets this week in Berlin.
Football Association chairman Dyke believes it would need the support of "10 large countries" to have an impact.
"Otherwise it is pointless," he said.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 live's Sports week, Dyke added: "There would certainly be us, there would certainly be the Dutch, there would certainly be the Germans who have been demanding change and would demand change.
"They would only take serious action if there's enough [opposition willing to act]."
Blatter beat rival Prince Ali bin al-Hussein of Jordan on Friday in an election that was overshadowed by arrests and corruption allegations.
Uefa had supported Prince Ali's bid, but reports suggest as many as 18 European nations, including 2018 World Cup hosts Russia, France and Spain, voted for Blatter.
David Bernstein, FA chairman between 2011 and 2013, said he was troubled by "a big split" within Uefa.
"If it is true that maybe up to a third of Uefa countries voted for Blatter, it will be very difficult to get a cohesive Uefa plan of action on this," he said.
"We may have to rely upon sponsors and prosecutors to push this over the top."
Former Fifa executive Jerome Champagne, who had planned to challenge Blatter for the presidency before withdrawing in February, says boycotting a World Cup would be misguided.
"It doesn't make sense," he said. "The World Cup will continue because it is the biggest football event."
Dyke, meanwhile, believes the whole presidential election voting system needs to be reformed.
All 209 Fifa member countries have an equal say in the vote, regardless of size or football pedigree.
"It is a very strange system," added Dyke.
"A democracy where everyone gets one vote looks completely fair but then you say hang on a minute, Turks & Caicos Islands get the same vote as England, Germany or America, that doesn't make any sense at all. At some stage, that might have to be changed.
"What Mr Blatter has done is gone around the world encouraging any small country he can find to join Fifa and that is a vote for him.
"The money is spread fairly evenly and for a lot of smaller countries that means almost their total income comes from Fifa, and they thank Mr Blatter for that."

Rafael Benitez's last game in charge of Napoli ended in a dramatic defeat to Lazio which cost his side the chance of qualification for the Champions League.

Benitez, who is expected to become the new manager of Real Madrid, needed a win to take Napoli above their opponents to finish third in Serie A.
From 2-0 down at half-time, Gonzalo Higuain scored twice in a thrilling fightback but then missed a penalty.
Substitutes Ogenyi Onazi and Miroslav Klose then scored as Lazio won it.
Both sides finished a remarkable game with 10 men as Napoli ended the season in fifth place after Fiorentina beat Chievo 3-0.

Lazio's Marco Parolo was sent off for a second yellow card in the second half after he had given the visitors a 33rd-minute lead with a deflected long-range shot.
They added to their advantage in first-half stoppage time thanks to Antonio Candreva's calm finish when sent clear with just goalkeeper Mariano Andujar to beat.
Higuain then scored both of Napoli's goals in a thrilling start to the second half which promised to give Benitez a memorable send-off, with Napoli knowing that a win would take them above Lazio thanks to their better head-to-head record.
First the Argentina international, 27, side-footed home to make it 2-1.
He then fired his 28th goal of the season into the bottom corner from a Dries Mertens pass.
Napoli defender Faouzi Ghoulam was dismissed for a second caution with 20 minutes to go.
And with just 15 minutes left, Senad Lulic tripped Christian Maggio to concede a penalty, but Higuain extended his poor record on spot-kicks this season when he fired the ball over to record his fourth miss from seven attempts.
Lazio then secured their place in the Champions League for the first time since 2008 with two late goals.
Onazi scored less than two minutes after being sent on by manager Stefano Pioli and veteran German international Klose, 36, headed home his 15th goal of the season in the last minute.
Elsewhere, Sampdoria drew 2-2 with Parma to guarantee finishing aboveInter Milan - who beat Empoli 4-3 - and finish seventh.
That will be enough to earn them Italy's final place in the Europa League if Genoa fail in their appeal against a decision by the Italian Football Federation not to grant them a Uefa licence to compete in next season's competition, owing to an administration issue.

Fifa's Sepp Blatter victim of conspiracy, daughter says

Fifa president Sepp Blatter is the victim of a conspiracy from "behind the scenes", his daughter has told the BBC amid the corruption crisis gripping world football.
"Nobody is without fault but (...) he's not the person who is taking money," Corinne Blatter said.
Her comments come as key Fifa officials face a string of bribery charges.
Mr Blatter, who has been re-elected as Fifa president, has not been implicated but faces calls to stand down.
Asked whether she thought there was a conspiracy against Mr Blatter - who won re-election as head of world football's governing body on Friday despite the current crisis - Corinne Blatter said: "I wouldn't say from the Americans and the British, but certainly people working behind the scenes, yes absolutely."
She added: "I don't know if you want to call them dark forces but I mean they really tried hard, they tried in September, October last year. How can Uefa who is saying 'we are the strongest confederation', how can they not put up a candidate?"
Mr Blatter beat rival Prince Ali bin al-Hussein of Jordan on Friday in an election that was overshadowed by arrests and corruption allegations.
In September 2014, Mr Blatter had come under pressure to quit after rejecting calls for a report into alleged World Cup bidding corruption to be made public.
Corinne Blatter's comments came as the head of the English Football Association called on Uefa president Michel Platini to unite Europe behind a collective boycott of the 2018 World Cup.
And in further intrigue, South African newspapers reported on Sunday that the nation did pay $10m (£6.5m) to a football association led by a figure at the centre of the Fifa allegations, despite a week of denials.

'Not taking money'

Corinne Blatter denied claims that the events of the last few days had left her father with no credibility.
"All these things happened just to discredit him so that he would resign. But I can tell you in about [two or three] weeks no one will talk about it anymore.

"Other news will be top and he'll work normally, as he said yesterday at the press conference he had a great executive meeting and everyone is going to work together. He's also the president of those who didn't vote for him and they have to work together now."
And she denied again that Mr Blatter had taken any money.
"All the money he earned he earned it by working and he is a hard working president.
"All these people who say that he takes money I don't know what kind of money he should take and he's not the kind his character is not like that, he's not taking any money."

AC Milan: Carlo Ancelotti in talks over return to Serie A club

AC Milan have held talks with Carlo Ancelotti in a bid to bring the former manager back to the Serie A giants.
Ancelotti, sacked by Real Madrid this week, met Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani and will decide on Wednesday whether to return to a club he helped win two Champions Leagues and Serie A.
Current manager Filippo Inzaghi, who took over last summer, has been told he will not continue in his role.
With one league game left, struggling Milan could finish as low as 10th.
Ancelotti, who won the Champions League with Real Madrid last season but has not won a trophy this term, said he was considering taking a year's sabbatical and having surgery on a back problem following his dismissal.
"I must have an operation because of spinal stenosis that for some time creates a tingle in my hands," he was quoted as telling Il Giornale.
"I don't know how long the period of recovery will be," he added. "I can assure you that I've had plenty of offers from Italy, England, Germany. I'm sure they will not be lacking from here until next year."
The 55-year-old coached AC Milan from 2001 to 2009, winning the Italian league title in 2004 and two Champions League titles in 2003 and 2007.
He also twice won the old European Cup as a player with the club in 1989 and 1990.

Arsène Wenger has no intention of letting Jack Wilshere leave Arsenal

Arsène Wenger has said he has never considered selling Jack Wilshere, nor is he about to start. The midfielder, who has been with the club since the age of nine, stated recently that it would hurt if Arsenal sold him and feel strange to wear another shirt. Wenger responded by emphasising his commitment to the 23-year-old.
“I made Jack Wilshere start at 17 years of age,” said the Arsenal manager. “That means that you cannot show a bigger desire of wanting a player. We have always extended his contract and we have been very patient with all his injuries. At some stage I think he must feel wanted. We always stood by him through every difficult moment. Does that mean we want him to stay here for a longer period? Yes, as we would like to benefit from his talent now.” The message to any potential suitors is an unequivocal hands off.
Wilshere is one of the group of players waiting anxiously to discover whether he will be selected for the FA Cup final. Last year he came off the bench to make an impression as an impact substitute in extra-time against Hull City. A recent series of sharp cameos and a dazzling volley last Sunday against West Brom have strengthened Wilshere’s case for a more active role.
Wenger is adamant that Wilshere and Theo Walcott, who has also had to wait patiently for his opportunity to work his way back into the team post-injury, will stay to give the peak years of their careers to Arsenal.
The manager’s vision for Walcott’s future appears to be in a central striking role. “He can play on the flank, but if you ask me where do I see him in the future, it is through the middle. If you ask him, he will tell you as well through the middle. Why? Because he is a good enough finisher, he has electric pace and he has top, top quality in the timing of his runs. If you analyse that, it is the quality of his receptions, the space where he gets the ball basically, that is above average compared to many players.”
Walcott and Wilshere have pushed hard for a place in a first XI that until recently looked set enough to restrict them to the substitutes’ bench. There are a handful of positions with an intriguing either/or option that Wenger has been mulling over before Wembley.
Wenger insists that when he makes the big selection choices, it is imperative the substitutes feel as important as the first XI. “The whole squad has to focus on doing it as most of the time the heroes are the guys who come on,” he said. “I remember last year in extra-time I brought on [Tomas] Rosicky and Wilshere. After, I spoke with the Hull guys and they told me: ‘When we saw them coming on, we knew that we didn’t have a chance any more.’ Most of the time it is a squad achievement, a cup final.”
Wenger is urging his players to avoid dicing with calamity in this season’s final, as they did last season when a shocking start gave Hull a two-goal lead in eight minutes before Arsenal recovered to win 3-2. “I was thinking that it was a nightmare day,” the Frenchman said of how he felt at that precarious moment. “All the fans came full of hope and we are 2-0 down. It could have been three as [Kieran] Gibbs saved on the line. With the pressure on it was really a nightmare.”
They were able to turn the situation into a triumph and that is a lesson Wenger and his players took from the experience. “I was ready for a fight. I was ready to fight until the end. You knew that you need a goal and certainly the free-kick of Santi Cazorla was very important. After that it was important to keep the players calm and not rush the game. Just be patient, come back to 2-2.

Juventus eye Chelsea ace Oscar in cut-price £9million move as Italians prepare for life without Paul Pogba

If the Italian champions fail in their cheeky bid to land the Brazilian in a permanent deal, they will offer a season-long loan with a guaranteed sale in summer 2016.

The Italian champions are trying to get the Brazilian on the cheap after offering £9million – less than half what Chelsea paid for him in 2012.
They have already agreed a deal for Real Madrid’s German midfielder Sami Khedira and want to add Oscar as they face up to the prospect of selling Paul Pogba this summer.
Juventus have even proposed a season-long loan deal for Oscar with a guaranteed sale in the summer of 2016.
Inter Milan are ready to offer Blues misfit Juan Cuadrado a return to Serie A.
The Colombian winger could be heading out of Stamford Bridge after less than a season having failed to impress since his £26.1m move at the end of the January transfer window.

Chelsea flop Juan Cuadrado may return to Italy with Inter Milan set to offer £26.1million misfit escape route

The former Fiorentina favourite only signed for the Stamford Bridge outfit in January, but has failed to shine in the Premier League.

Inter Milan are ready to offer Juan Cuadrado a return to Serie A.
Cuadrado could be heading out of Chelsea after less than half a season at Stamford Bridge.
The Colombian winger has failed to impress since his £26.1million move at the end of the winter transfer window.
And he is understood to be keen on a move back to Italy after struggling to settle and making just four starts under Jose Mourinho.
Inter are monitoring the situation and want to offer Cuadrado an escape route.
But they may have to alter their plans to land the 27-year-old who was a big hit at Serie A side Fiorentina before joining Chelsea.
Inter are hoping to sign Cuadrado initially on a year-long loan with a view to a permanent move at the end of next season.
But Chelsea would prefer to do a permanent deal this summer and recoup what they paid for Cuadrado.

David Moyes turns down the opportunity to manage Sunderland despite initial talks

David Moyes has turned down the chance to become the next manager of Sunderland.
The 52-year-old Real Sociedad boss was targeted by the Stadium of Light club as they look to find a replacement for Dick Advocaat who announced he was leaving his role as head coach on Tuesday.
Owner Ellis Short was prepared to offer a lucrative wage package and a healthy transfer kitty that would ensure Sunderland could bring in up to six quality signings, as recommended by Advocaat.
After talks took place on Thursday, Moyes decided the challenge was not for him and he has opted to stay in Spain.
The former Manchester United and Everton boss has also been sounded out about the vacant post at West Ham but it is understood it would take a bigger offer to tempt him away from Sociedad where he has settled quickly.

Man City transfer news: Blues won't give up fight for Liverpool and Arsenal target James Milner

Manchester City are refusing to give up on James Milner.
The club’s hierarchy believe the England international can still be persuaded to sign a new contract, despite interest from Liverpool and Arsenal.
Milner’s current deal expires at end of June, with the 29-year-old so far resisting City’s efforts to get him to commit his future to the Etihad.
Yet City do not accept that his departure this summer is a forgone conclusion.
He is believed to have spoken to chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak after the final game of the season last weekend - and City retain hope that he will yet take the contract on offer at the Etihad.
Manuel Pellegrini has maintained his determination to include Milner in his plans to reclaim the Premier League title next season.
And while City accept the uncertainty cannot be allowed to rumble on into what is a pivotal summer, Pellegrini is willing to wait for Milner to assess all of his options.
“James is in charge to say when he will make his decision,” said the Chilean. “That is when he finishes his contract with our club, which is the end of June.”
Milner is being offered a package worth £165,000-a-week to stay at City.
Yet his decision is not believed to be based on money, rather his desire for more regular playing time.
That could give Liverpool the advantage during bargaining with Brendan Rodgers seeing Milner as a man to who fill the void left by Steven Gerrard’s departure.
The move to Anfield would also mean he could continue living in the north west, rather than uprooting to London if he joined Arsenal.
Pellegrini believes Samir Nasri will have fully recovered from his groin problem in time for City’s pre-season tour to Australia.
The Frenchman missed the final three games of the season because of the injury and has been monitored closely during City’s current tour of Canada and the US.
Pellegrini said: “Samir is better - he’s working.
“He’s started two days ago running and we hope he will be fit for the pre-season.”
Pellegrini is due to finalise his transfer plans with director of football Txiki Begiristain.
James Milner should realise Manchester City is the place to be
Paul Pogba, Raheem Sterling and Kevin de Bruyne are among his targets, but he revealed he will have further discussions with his superiors over spending.
“We will analyse what happened in the last season,” he said. “Where we think that we must improve. We are always talking with Txiki Begiristain about that. After that we will decide where we must improve.”

Porto helpless to stop Arsenal triggering £24.7m Jackson Martinez clause

Arsenal have already been in talks with Porto over Martinez, but Liverpool are also interested in a player who scored 21 goals this season.
Porto president Nuno Pinto da Costa said: “He’s a player we want to keep, but we cannot stop someone paying the clause.

Manchester United ‘favourites to seal £21.3m Carlos Bacca transfer’s

The Red Devils are keen on the Colombian front man and are ready to begin negotiation with the La Liga side.
Bacca scored twice in tha Europa League final to win the title for Sevilla who qre ready to cash in on him.
Roma and AC Milan are also interested on the goal machine, but with all indication it shows that United is on the better side

City lead Pog race

MANCHESTER CITY are leading the race for Juventus powerhouse Paul Pogba — as Prem rivals have been priced out of a mega-bucks move.

LIVERPOOL hope to bring in Carlo Ancelotti to replace Brendan Rodgers — and the Italian would jump at the chance to manage at Anfield.
